Not drinking enough water is a common issue I hear amongst a lot of my clients and it
sounds like it should be a simple, but so many people struggle with it! So I'm going to share with you my top tips for staying hydrated and why it's so important for your health in so many ways...
HEALTH BENEFITS OF WATER
Regulates body temperature
Keeps joints lubricated
Delivers nutrients to cells
Keeps organs functioning properly
Improves sleep quality
Improves Cognition and Focus
Increases energy levels
Improves mood
TOP TIPS FOR DRINKING ENOUGH WATER

1. My favourite tip to keep me on hydrated is my trusty GIANT water bottle pictured to the left. It's excellent for making you more aware of the time and how much water you have consumed. Within a day on average we should be aiming for 2-3 litres of water and even more if you've had a very active day/exercised. This bottle holds 2.2 litres so I know that if I have kept to the times throughout the day I will have drank a good amount. I bought this bottle from amazon if you think this will be a useful tool and want to grab yourself one!
2. Start your day with a glass of water- overnight we will become quite dehydrated to I find it's always beneficial to start my day with a glass of water before anything else to start the rehydration process and also help boost my focus and increase my energy!
3. Set yourself reminders, I know that some fitness watches have this ability (you can download WaterMinder if you have an apple watch) or simply set yourself alarms or reminders through the day to make sure you have some water!
4. Try flavouring your water, I know some people find the taste of water very boring so why not try mixing it up by adding things like lemon, cucumber, mint or strawberries to your drink to make it a little more interesting!
5. Eat foods that have a high water content to help boost your hydration a little:
Lettuce: 96% water
Celery: 95% water
Courgette: 95% water
Cabbage: 92% water
Watermelon: 91% water
Honeydew or Cantaloupe melon: 90% water
6. Replace other drinks with water. Be mindful of the other drinks you are consuming throughout the day eg- juice, fizzy drinks, teas/coffees, alcohol. You don't need to cut these out completely, but making a swap if you seem to consume these drinks often would be beneficial to your hydration levels. Bear in mind teas, coffees and alcohols can actually cause dehydration!
I hope you find these tips useful and can make some small changes to increase your hydration levels if you aren't quite meeting the 2-3 litres per day rule for water!
